St. Michael's Catholic School, Rotorua
Kia ora Koutou!
I am incredibly proud to be the tumuaki of St Michael’s Catholic School in Rotorua. The St Michael’s whanau is made up of many committed, caring, compassionate and enthusiastic people, including our highly skilled staff members, our tremendously dedicated parents, our wonderful parish whanau and last, but certainly not least, our friendly and joy-filled students.
At St Michael’s, our motto is ‘Striving for Excellence’ and this is at the heart of all that we do. We have very high expectations of academic performance and our school is known throughout Rotorua for our students’ excellent behaviour. We want our students to be engaged and motivated to learn and we know we are succeeding when our parents tell us that their children just can’t wait to get here each morning.
We are a Catholic school and this permeates everything we do. Visitors often remark about a ‘special something’ that they feel when they come to our school. This ‘special something’ comes down to our Catholic character. Our children receive Religious Education lessons every day, they attend school liturgies and Masses and celebrate important feast days in the life of the Church. Our special character also influences the way we treat each other and our relationships. Everything we do is steeped in the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Our school was established on its present site in 1958 and we are very proud of our historical links with the Mercy sisters, two of whom still live on-site in the convent. Catherine McAuley (founder of the Mercy order) once said, “The simplest and most practical lesson I know… is to resolve to be good today, but better tomorrow” and this very much complements our school motto.
St Michael’s School students are friendly, talented, caring, smart, happy and enthusiastic. We love working with them each and every day and it is our mission to give them the very best that education has to offer.
If you are interested in bringing your child to be part of our St Michael’s family please contact the office, or pop in to meet us.
