To Give
I would like to acknowledge and thank Sr Monica who donated a poster to the school. The title of the poster is “To Give.” The first line states; “We don’t have anything to give. I know, I could give a…” “A smile, a hand, some time, give importance, an idea, give a pat, give thanks, give ‘wow!’
It is good to reflect on what we can do for other people without having to spend money.
Athletics
A big thank you to Whaea Liz for organising this year’s athletics day. The weather was perfect and the children all enjoyed themselves. It was also great to have the large numbers of parents turnout to support their children in the various events.
Donation to the Christchurch Appeal
Today, we held a prayer service in memory and support of those in Christchurch. The school also held a mufti day, with the funds raised being donated to Caritas, a Catholic Social Agency working with those in Christchurch. It is both a privilage and an honour to be able to support other people in their hour of need.
Mercy Values
During our recent staff prayer, Mrs Brits shared how the Mercy Sisters’ Charism promotes education. As a staff we shared what working in a Catholic school means to us personally and professionally. I would like to share some of the values expressed, because to me personally they represent the true value of Catholic education. Some of the values are:
– Providing quality education.
– Listening & caring, understanding the needs of other people.
– Compassion (food bank, cards for sick, financial support, being part of the community).
– Faith in action “What would Jesus do?”
– Assisting with funding for camp so that all children get the experience.
– Caritas Lent challenges.
These values are the defining qualities of Catholic education.
2011
I extend a warm welcome to our returning students and to our new enrolments. It is always an honour to be trusted with your children’s education.
