Newsletter Week 9, Term 3
St Michael's Catholic School, Tuesday 12th September
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,
Last week was another exciting, fun filled week at St Michael’s Catholic School. Two of our STEM teams participated in the Kahui Ako STEM day at St. Mary's School, planned and guided by Paul Billing from JPC. Our students immersed themselves in the fascinating realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, sparking their curiosity and imagination.
Our teachers have been deeply engrossed in Professional Learning and Development (PLD) sessions, where they've delved into the topic of "What Catholics Believe." These sessions are enhancing our Catholic faith, a treasure we can share with our students to nurture their spiritual growth. Our teachers have also been working on Niho Taniwha - Improving Teaching and Learning for Ākonga Māori. This PLD is widening and deepening our understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and of history and its impacts on the people of Aotearoa.
We also had the privilege of joining the Nga Korero o Te Kura Education Program with the Rotorua Museum Education team, delving into our school's history and Catholic Education in Rotorua over the past 150 years. This incredible journey has allowed us to uncover the rich tapestry of our school's history, what the land was used for before our school became part of the community and the broader landscape of Catholic Education in Rotorua.
Chocolates from our PTA fundraiser are all gone! This is fantastic news! Additionally, the PTA has generously purchased a class set of Sphero Indi Education robots, providing our children with an exciting opportunity to explore basic coding.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 13th, when most of our senior students will participate in the Winter Sports Field Day, engaging in sports such as netball, hockey, soccer, and miniball.
On Thursday, September 14th, don't miss our speech finals—parents are welcome to join and watch our talented speakers in action.
Finally, on Friday, September 15th, our gymnastics team will shine at the MIGs gym competition.
Thank you for being part of our school community's vibrant learning journey!
Have a great week whanau,
Te tumuaki o te kura Hato Mikaere

Special Character
Weekly Scripture Reflections:
What Bible passages have you read or discussed with your child this week? How can you relate the week's Gospel reading to everyday life and Catholic values?
Gospel for Sunday 10 September: Matthew 18:15-20
Title: "A Lesson in Forgiveness and Community"
In the Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus teaches us an important lesson about how to treat one another. He says, "If your friend does something that upsets you, go and talk to them privately. Tell them how you feel and why. It's a chance for both of you to understand each other better."
Jesus continues, "If your friend listens and understands, you have made peace. But if they don't, take a few friends with you to help. Together, you can try to make things right."
He also says, "When you pray together and ask for help, I will be there with you. Wherever two or three are gathered in my name, I am among them. So, always remember the power of forgiveness and the strength of community."
In this way, Jesus shows us how important it is to talk and listen, forgive, and come together as a community to solve problems and find peace.
Which of our school values reflects this weeks Gospel reading?
Aroha - by the word of God, we treat everyone as we expect to be treated.

A reminder for our bus parents: each day we take a “bus roll” before putting the children on the bus so that we know who has caught the bus and is safely on their way home. If your child thinks they are catching the bus but your plans change and you will pick them up, please let Cristy know by phoning the office or popping in.
