Newsletter Week 5, Term 3

St Michael's Catholic School, Wednesday 16th August

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,

Assumption of Mary Celebration:
We were delighted to come together at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday to celebrate the Assumption of Our Mother, Mary. It was a heartwarming Mass where we shared this significant feast day with Fr. Thomas, and the staff and children of St. Mary's School.

St. Mary Mackillop Day Liturgy:
Last Tuesday, we celebrated St. Mary Mackillop Day with a school-wide liturgy. Our middle school tamariki showcased their leadership skills as they led us in prayer, making the day even more special.

Music Enrichment with Instruments:
Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce that we've secured funding for musical instruments. Bruce Norman and I will be offering music lessons to any child interested in learning to play the guitar or ukulele. Stay tuned for updates on Bruce's availability – currently, lessons are being planned to take place before school at 8:15am. More detailed information will be provided soon.

Reminder: Early Closure for PLD @ 12am
This Wednesday, we have arranged for an early school closure. Our dedicated teachers will have the opportunity to engage with Cynthia Piper from the Catholic Theological College, exploring the theme of "What Catholics Believe." This occasion presents a valuable chance for our staff to collaborate and collectively deepen our faith. We look forward to this enriching experience.

In the coming weeks:
Our senior and middle school students will get the chance to experience Rippa Rugby, with a skilled coach from Sport BOP coming in to spark their enthusiasm.
In week 7 and 8, the whole school will be engaged in the Nga Korero o Te Kura education programme - our school history, with the Rotorua Museum Education Team.
Also in week 8, a group of senior students will be taking part in the Kahui Ako STEM day at St Mary's.
Our school speech competition will also take place in week 8. Our students are busy writing and practicing their speeches this week.
In week 10, we have the BOP Winter Field Day and the MIGS Gymnastics Competition.
Keep an eye on Seesaw and the School App for further information of upcoming events.

Have a great week whanau,

Rachael McLanachan
