Enrol

An enrolment pack is available from the school’s office.

What to expect?

Starting school is an important milestone in the life of a child and the journey as a parent.
Our ‘transition to school program is usually held on a Thursday from 9am – 11:30am.

At St Michael’s School we believe that each child is unique. We celebrate this and look for ways in which we can tailor the experience to you and your family. If you feel your child has additional needs that we need to consider we are happy to tailor a transition program for you.  Once your child’s enrolment is confirmed, you will be advised of when (and how) these visits will take place.
We recommend students and at least one caregiver attend  six transition sessions immediately prior to starting at school.

Before School

We strongly encourage children to arrive at school about 8.30am to prepare for the day. This gives them time to get organised for the day, catch up with their classmates and be ready for our 8.55am start. Classrooms are open from 8.30am.

After School

Please feel free to join us for our prayer in the afternoon. We do ask that parents remain quiet in the classroom. If parents wish to catch up with one another we encourage you to do so outside of the classroom.

After school, children must leave the school grounds by 3.15pm unless they are attending a supervised sports practice. Children left waiting for parents after 3.15pm have to come and sit on the office steps. Teachers are unable to provide supervision for your child after 3.15pm as they have meetings to attend etc.

Parking

Our main entrance is on Clayton Road.
We encourage our families to utilise this carpark for both the drop off and collection of their child(ren).

Uniform

At St Michael’s all students are expected to wear the school uniform with pride.  School uniform items can be purchased from NZ Uniform Shop found in Ranolf Street opposite Spotlight.

School Fees

Students attending St Michael’s are required to pay fees to the Diocese. The families of St Michael’s students agree to contribute financially to the School each year at a rate that is relevant to the age of their child(ren).

Fees due to the Diocese are $466 per year per student or $116.50 per term and are payable direct to the Diocese.

2023: The only fees we charge parents  for are our classroom stationery packs ordered through Officemax website.  We also charge parents for team sports played after school hours e.g, Touch, Netball, Miniball & Hockey

Attendance

Student attendance is directly linked to student progress and success in learning. We monitor student’s attendance closely. It is important that students arrive at school on time and attend every day.

Please contact the school if your child is going to be absent. You can telephone the office at any time and leave a message detailing the reason for your child’s absence.

Please notify the school every day your child is away. If your child is going to be absent for any reason other than illness, please inform the school in advance, where possible, of the dates they will be away.

If your child is absent due to illness for three days or more our school requires a medical certificate.

Year Level

Please note that children who start school before the 1st of April are classified as Year 1 students. Children who begin after this date are classified as Year 0.

Assemblies

Assemblies are seen as a valuable opportunity to bring the whole school community together in order to celebrate, share and to activate learning. Assemblies are held fortnightly on Friday afternoons at 2.05pm, except on days when we have a Mass or Liturgy. Each week a different class runs the Assembly. Parents are welcome to join us at Assemblies.

Accidents/ Illness at School

In the event of an accident your child will be administered basic first aid. If medical assistance is required or your child is unwell you will be contacted and asked to collect your child. An ambulance will be called in an emergency and parents will be advised as soon as practicable.
