Newsletter Week 5, Term 3

St Michael's Catholic School, Thursday 22 August

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,

We’re excited for tonight's PTA Disco, where students can come dressed as their favorite movie characters! It’s sure to be a fun-filled evening.

We had a fantastic day at the CBOP Sports Day! Our Soccer and Hockey teams played exceptionally well, demonstrating both skill and great sportsmanship. Our students represented our school with pride, making us all very proud.

Next week is shaping up to be a busy one!
On Wednesday, our senior Year 4-6 students and their teachers will attend the NZ Symphony Orchestra concert, Symphonic Storms, at 1:15 pm at the Sir Howard Morrison Centre. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience the captivating sounds of various instruments.

On Thursday, our Kapa Haka roopu will be performing in the Faith-based Kāhui Ako Ahurei at John Paul College. Parents are warmly invited to attend and support our talented performers. Also on Thursday, the Ark children and their teachers will be attending Mass at St. Michael's Church.
On Friday, our gymnastics team will compete in the Rotorua Primary Schools competition at MIGS. We wish them the best of luck!

Looking ahead, on September 3rd, PhotoLife will be on-site to take our school photos. Your child will be given a code to access the photos online for purchase.

Have a wonderful week whanau.
Ma te Atua koe e manaaki,

Rachael McLanachan

Welcome to new student

A very warm welcome to Asher Carruthers, who is joining us in The Ark 8. We are delighted to have you with us and hope you enjoy your time at St. Michael's School. Asher is the sibling of Ethan Carruthers.

If you know of families with children due to start school, please direct them to our wonderful Cristy in the school office.

Lost Property

We have received a number of lost items of clothing, many of which are unnamed. Please ensure your child’s clothing is clearly labeled so we can easily return any misplaced items to their rightful owners. We also ask that you check your child's clothing to make sure they haven't accidentally brought home someone else’s belongings.

Health & Safety

Illness and Absence:
  • Keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Notify the school office if your child will be absent due to illness or other reasons.
Hydration:
It's easy to forget to drink water when it's cooler, but staying hydrated is still important. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.

Healthy Lunches:
A balanced diet is important for keeping energy levels up and immune systems strong. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your child’s lunchbox to support their health and concentration at school.

Spotlight on Learning

For this week's spotlight on learning, we're excited to feature fantastic pieces of descriptive writing from Pamodya and Montana in Galilee 4. Well done girls! Keep up the great work!

School Resources

We kindly request your help in locating and returning any school journals, library books, or sports uniforms that might still be at home.
Please have your child bring these items back to school and hand them to their respective teachers.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our school resources are accounted for. We appreciate your support in providing an excellent educational experience for all our students.

Soccer Duty Day
A huge thank you to everyone that helped with the Duty Day on the 09/08/24. St Michaels is one of the smallest clubs with only 3 teams in the league. It is always a joy to see our community come together for our little Tamariki and managed to run a very successful Duty Day filled with so much love, laughter & fun. We managed to raise $1,033.00 that will go towards tournament fees, presentation day & upgrading our training equipment. A Big Thank you to St Mary’s Catholic school as none of this would be possible without their amazing support.
