Board Elections – Parent Nomination Needed
We are seeking one more parent nomination for our upcoming Board of Trustees elections. Joining the Board is a great opportunity to make a real difference in our school community. As a board member, you help shape the direction of the kura, support student achievement, and ensure the values and vision of our school are upheld. If you’re passionate about education and want to contribute to the future of St Michael’s, we warmly encourage you to put your name forward.
We are also on the lookout for a kaiako to support our Kapa Haka roopu. A huge thank you to Whaea Kelly for her years of dedication to this group. If you know of a guitarist who could spare a couple of hours a week to accompany our talented tamariki, we’d love to hear from you!

Attendance Update – Term 2, 2025
Thank you to all our whānau who continue to support regular school attendance. In Term 2, 58% of our students attended school regularly (more than 90% of the term). While this is slightly down from last term, we are seeing improvement in punctuality, with 76% of students arriving on time each day.
The most common reasons for absence were illness and holidays during term time. We understand that some families, particularly those with relatives overseas, may take trips to visit loved ones—however, we encourage whānau to plan these during school breaks wherever possible to avoid disruption to learning.
Year 1 had the best attendance this term, while Year 4 will be a focus next term, as several students in this group were frequently absent. We also noticed that Fridays had the lowest attendance, so please help us by reinforcing the importance of attending every day.
Attendance matters. Every day counts for learning, connection, and routine. Let’s keep working together to ensure all our tamariki can thrive at school.

Health & Safety
Please remember to keep your child home if they are unwell, and notify the office with the reason for any absences so we can keep our records accurate.
We’ve had a few cases of headlice and strep throat reported recently. Please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. Free headlice treatments are available from Western Heights Pharmacy and Woolworths Pharmacy.
For strep throat, please keep your child at home if they have a sore throat, fever, or other symptoms. If you’re unsure, a quick visit to your GP or pharmacy can help confirm whether treatment is needed.
