Newsletter Week 1, Term 4
St Michael's Catholic School, Thursday 17 October
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,
Welcome to the start of our fourth and final term! As the weather heats up, please remember to send your child to school with a sunhat and a water bottle to keep them cool and hydrated.
Our Year 6 students will begin a four-week Swim Safe programme this Friday. This important programme will teach them about water safety in various settings, including the ocean, rivers, streams, and lakes.
Class Masses at St. Michael's Church will start next Thursday. Please keep an eye on Seesaw for updates so you know when your child’s class will be attending Mass. Additionally, we have two Sunday School Masses this term on Sunday, November 3, and Sunday, December 1. We encourage as many students as possible to attend, even if you can make it to just one. We understand this time of year can be busy, but supporting our special Catholic character is an important part of our school community.
Mark your calendars for Friday, November 15—our PTA is hosting a Quiz Night! Gather a team for a fun evening and help support our school’s fundraising efforts. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we’re looking forward to another great night!
We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting enrolments from siblings of families who are already part of our school community. This allows us to better plan our staffing and resources. If you have siblings of a child who would like to join our school this year or early next year, we encourage you to get in touch with the office or drop off the enrolment forms as soon as possible. We are also accepting enrolments for non preference new entrants from within our community. If you or someone you know has a 5 year old starting school this term or next year, we encourage you to take advantage of this limited opportunity. However, we want to inform you that there is currently a waiting list for non-preference enrolments in other areas of the school. While we value every application, we must prioritise those who meet the preference criteria.
As the year draws to a close, here are some key dates for your diary:
- Thursday, December 12 at 6 pm: Our final school Mass, where we farewell our Year 6 students and hand over the mantle of leadership to the Year 5 students. This is also when we announce our 2025 student leaders, and our Year 6 students receive their bibles and leavers' certificates.
- Monday, December 16: Blue Lake Picnic Day for the whole school. It’s always a relaxed and fun day with whānau, so join us if you can!
- Tuesday, December 17 at 10:30 am: Our prizegiving ceremony, followed by the start of the summer holidays.
Let’s make the most of this final term together. We look forward to a term full of learning, celebration, and community!
Have a wonderful week whanau.

School Resources
We kindly request your help in locating and returning any school journals, library books, or sports uniforms that might still be at home. Please have your child bring these items back to school and hand them to their respective teachers. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our school resources are accounted for. We appreciate your support in providing an excellent educational experience for all our students.

Health & Safety
This term is a summer term! Take some time to dig out that school hat! The classroom teachers will supply sunblock for the children, please ensure that if your child is allergic to the sunblock we use, to let the classroom teacher know.
Use of the school drive through
It has come to our attention that some individuals are driving into the school grounds from the Lisa Crescent end of the driveway. To ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors, please use the authorized entry point via the May Road entrance, located beside the school courts. This will help improve the flow of traffic and enhance safety on the school grounds.
Please note that the drive-through option is not a designated waiting area. If your child is not yet ready, kindly drive through and re-enter the queue rather than waiting in the driveway. This will help prevent congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Reminder about Parking on School Grounds: We have witnessed a few unsafe close calls during peak times, as people attempt to back out in the school driveway and drive-through areas while children are present. To ensure the safety of everyone, we kindly ask parents and caregivers not to park in these areas, as they are designated for staff. Your cooperation in keeping our school grounds safe for both children and staff is greatly appreciated!
