Newsletter Week 2, Term 2

St Michael's Catholic School, Thursday 8th May

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,

Welcome back, everyone, to Term 2 at St Michael's Catholic School!

A huge congratulations to all our amazing tamariki who took part in the Mini Marathon last week! It was wonderful to see their determination, energy, and smiles as they crossed the finish line.
Events like this are a great way to encourage healthy habits, build resilience, and celebrate effort – and our students certainly showed all of that and more.
Thank you to all the whānau who came along to support and cheer from the sidelines – your presence made the day even more special.

What a fantastic day we had yesterday on our whole school trip to the zoo! It was such a joy to see our tamariki so engaged, curious, and full of wonder as they explored and learned about all the amazing animals.
A huge thank you to our wonderful staff and parent helpers who made the day run so smoothly. Your support and enthusiasm helped create such a special experience for our students.
It was a great reminder of how valuable these shared learning adventures are – not just for building knowledge, but for strengthening friendships and our school community.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Pope Francis, a much-loved and humble servant of God. His deep compassion, unwavering commitment to social justice, and gentle leadership touched the hearts of millions around the world.
As a Catholic school, we give thanks for his life, his teachings, and the example he set in living out the Gospel. We keep him in our prayers and join the global Church in mourning his loss while celebrating his remarkable legacy.

Our next school Mass will be held on Sunday the 1st of June @ St Michael's church- 8am, and we would love to see as many of our school families as possible join us in this special celebration. It’s always a meaningful time for our school community to come together in prayer, reflection, and worship.
For families wishing to have their child baptised, it is especially important to attend these Masses as part of the preparation process. We encourage all those considering baptism to be present at our school Masses to help deepen their connection with the faith community.

Our parish is currently fundraising to replace the church roof, and they’ve invited our school community to help. One fun way our tamariki can get involved is by taking part in a Readathon this May.
We’ve already sent home a sponsorship form and reading log so children can keep track of the books they read while helping raise funds for this important cause.

Our school proudly took part in the Mini Marathon!

We’re so proud of our students for their amazing effort, determination, and team spirit — and a big thank you to all the supporters who cheered them on!
