Catholic Character Review on 26-27 June
|
|
We are pleased to announce that on the 26th and 27th of June, our school will undergo a Catholic Character Review. A team from the Hamilton Diocese, led by Terry Consedine and supported by Dianne Porter, will be with us for two days to conduct an external evaluation.
|
|
This review process will be based on the four Dimensions from the Catholic Special Character Review for Development document, developed by Aotearoa New Zealand Catholic Integrated Schools:
|
Dimension 1: Te Tūtaki ki a Te Karaiti | Encounter with Christ
|
- How effectively does the school encourage and facilitate the development of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who reveals the transforming love and truth of the living God?
Dimension 2: Te Whakatupu Mā Te Mātauranga | Growth in Knowledge
|
- How effectively does the school assist its community to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ, His teachings, and the Catholic Church?
Dimension 3: Te Whakaatu Karaitiana | Christian Witness
|
- How effectively does the school provide a hope-filled Catholic Christian witness that empowers its community members to integrate their faith and their life?
Dimension 4: Te Kaitiakitanga me te Whakapakari i te Tuakiri Katorika | Safeguarding and Strengthening Catholic Character
|
- How does the school, in its stewardship and compliance with legal obligations, safeguard and strengthen its Catholic identity?
|
The review team would like to meet with parents at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, 26th June, to discuss these dimensions and hear your perspectives on how our school is doing. Please join us in the staffroom for a coffee and a chat with the review team.

What Bible passages have you read or discussed with your child this week?

Gospel, Mark 4:26-34
He also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land.
|
|
Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know.
|
|
Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
|
|
And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come.'He also said, 'What can we say that the kingdom is like? What parable can we find for it?
|
|
It is like a mustard seed which, at the time of its sowing, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth.
|
|
Yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.'
|
|
Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it.
|
He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when they were by themselves.
|
Jesus is telling us about the Kingdom of God using simple stories that we can understand, called parables. He wants to show us how God's Kingdom grows in our hearts and in the world.
|
|
Parable of the Growing Seed:
|
Imagine a farmer who plants seeds in his field. After he plants them, he goes about his daily life, sleeping and waking up, but the seeds keep growing even though he doesn't know how it happens. First, they become little shoots, then ears of grain, and finally, the grain is ready for harvest. This is like the Kingdom of God – it grows quietly and steadily in our hearts and in the world, even if we don't see it happening all the time.

Parable of the Mustard Seed:
|
Jesus also compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed. This seed is very tiny when it's planted, but it grows into the biggest shrub with large branches. Birds can come and rest in its shade. This shows us that even small things we do with love and faith can grow into something great and wonderful in God's Kingdom.
|
|
Small Beginnings Can Lead to Great Things:
|
Just like the tiny mustard seed grows into a big plant, small acts of kindness and faith can make a big difference in our lives and in the world.
|
|
God's Work is Mysterious and Wonderful:
|
Sometimes, we don't understand how God's Kingdom grows, but we can trust that God is always at work, making good things happen in our hearts and around us.
|
We need to have faith and be patient, knowing that God's love and Kingdom will grow in its own time, just like the seeds in the parables.
|
The mustard tree provides shelter for birds, showing us that God's Kingdom is a place where everyone can find love, safety, and care.
|
How to Relate to Children:
Plant Seeds Together:
|
Have the children plant actual seeds and watch them grow over time. This can help them understand the parable in a hands-on way.
Acts of Kindness:
|
Encourage children to do small acts of kindness, showing them how these can grow into bigger, positive changes in their communities.
By understanding these parables, children can learn about faith, patience, and the amazing growth of God's love in their lives.
|

PTA News
Thank you to the families who have collected, sold, and returned money for our Cadbury chocolate school fundraiser. We still have many outstanding boxes that have not yet been collected by families from the office. Please collect your box at your earliest convenience. Every box sold brings us closer to reaching our fundraising goal and supports valuable school activities for our children. The fundraiser will run until the end of the term, so there's still plenty of time to make a big impact!
