Newsletter Week 2, Term 3
St Michael's Catholic School, Tuesday 28 July
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
It has been wonderful to welcome our tamariki and whānau back for another busy and exciting term. The children have settled quickly into their classroom routines and are already working hard.
Thank you to the many parents and caregivers who attended our parent–teacher hui last week. We had a fabulous turnout across all four classes. These meetings were very positive, with whānau and teachers celebrating the progress students made during Terms 1 and 2 and discussing their next learning steps.
On Tuesday 4 August, we will welcome representatives from the Education Review Office (ERO) to our school. As part of their visit, ERO has requested a parent and whānau hui from 2.20pm to 3.00pm on Tuesday afternoon. If you are coming to collect your child, please pop into the staffroom for a coffee and a chat. This is an opportunity to share your experiences of St Michael’s and ensure that whānau voice forms part of the review. We would love to have a good group of whānau join us.
We are also pleased to welcome Tania Galliers to our staff as the new teacher aide in the Ark. Tania will work alongside Edith Klostermann and Shania Howe to support our youngest learners. We are delighted to have her join the St Michael’s team and know she will be a valuable addition to the Ark.
This term, we are excited to strengthen our Kapa Haka programme with the support of Tukiri, our new volunteer tutor. The children responded very positively to his first session, and our rōpū will begin preparing to represent St Michael’s at the Rotorua Schools Ahurei in November.
As we move through the winter months, please continue encouraging regular attendance whenever your child is well enough to be at school. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for learning, friendship and connection.
Thank you for your continued support of our tamariki, staff and school. We are looking forward to a positive and productive Term 3 together.
We kindly ask that all Disney Ooshies remain at home. While we understand that children enjoy collecting and sharing them, they have become a distraction in the classroom and playground. Teachers are spending valuable teaching time managing issues involving them.
Thank you for supporting us in keeping school focused on learning.

Finding God in the Harmony
This past weekend, I had the privilege of performing with my orchestra. As we played Beethoven, I found myself caught up in something far greater than notes on a page.
How does one person imagine music so intricate, so powerful, so breathtakingly beautiful?
How can dozens of musicians, each playing a different instrument, with different notes, rhythms and melodies, somehow create a single work of extraordinary harmony?
As I sat there, I couldn't help but wonder: Where does beauty like this come from?
We often encounter moments that stop us in our tracks: a breathtaking landscape, a child’s laughter, a piece of music that moves us deeply. For me, Beethoven’s symphonies are one of those moments. They remind me that there is more to our world than what can simply be measured or explained. They awaken a sense of wonder and point towards the creativity and beauty of our Creator.
As I reflected on this, I thought about the children entrusted to us in our school. Each child is wonderfully unique, with their own gifts, personality and story. Like the instruments in an orchestra, no two are the same, and yet each has an important part to play.
Our role is not to create identical notes, but to help each child discover and develop the gifts God has placed within them. When we allow children to be truly themselves, something beautiful begins to emerge.
Perhaps, in the end, the greatest masterpieces are not only the ones we hear in concert halls, but the ones we witness unfolding every day - in the lives, friendships and growth of the children who fill our classrooms.

Ngāi Tahu ki Tauranga Moana is the taurahere rōpū for Ngāi Tahu whānau living in the Tauranga Moana takiwā. Taurahere means a binding rope, and we hold each other and our iwi together across the distance. A rope is strongest when every strand is held, so whether your rope is taut or you are reaching for it again or for the first time, there is a place for you here.
We are trying to connect with Ngāi Tahu across our rohe and would love to hear from you. Please take a few minutes to fill in our short survey. It tells us who is out there and what matters to you, and it shapes what we do for whānau in Tauranga Moana. https://forms.gle/RQHrLyaUVehB7CL99
