PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,
Welcome back to school for Term 3! We hope you had a restful break and are ready for the exciting term ahead. As we move into spring, we look forward to more settled weather and the beauty and joy that this season brings.
We have just concluded our parent-teacher interviews over the last two days. These conversations are invaluable opportunities for parents to hear about their child’s progress at school. If you were unable to attend an interview, rest assured that teachers will send out reports on Friday. Should you wish to discuss your child’s progress further, our teachers are available after school for appointments. Please feel free to email or use Seesaw to contact your child’s teacher.
This Friday, we are excited to kick off the Sport BOP Football Programme. Our children will have the opportunity to learn football skills with Anna, with each class enjoying a half-hour session over the next six Fridays.
Class Masses at St Michael’s Church will continue this term, starting with Mrs. Knox and Mrs. Klostermann’s classes next Thursday. We look forward to these special moments of community and reflection.
Additionally, on Thursday, August 1st, our Year 5/6 students from Galilee will participate in the CBOP Inter-School Amazing Race at Kuirau Park. Classroom teachers will provide more information about this thrilling event.
We are excited about the term ahead and the many learning opportunities it holds. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.
Have a great week whanau,

Weekly Scripture Reflections:
What Bible passages have you read or discussed with your child this week? How can you relate the week's Gospel reading to everyday life and Catholic values?
Sunday 28 July Gospel, John 6:1-15 After this, Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee and a large crowd followed him, impressed by the signs he had done in curing the sick. Jesus climbed the hillside and sat down there with his disciples. The time of the Jewish Passover was near. Looking up, Jesus saw the crowds approaching and said to Philip, 'Where can we buy some bread for these people to eat?'
He said this only to put Philip to the test; he himself knew exactly what he was going to do.
Philip answered, 'Two hundred denarii would not buy enough to give them a little piece each.'
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said, 'Here is a small boy with five barley loaves and two fish; but what is that among so many? Jesus said to them, 'Make the people sit down.' There was plenty of grass there, and as many as five thousand men sat down.
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were sitting there; he then did the same with the fish, distributing as much as they wanted.
When they had eaten enough he said to the disciples, 'Pick up the pieces left over, so that nothing is wasted. So they picked them up and filled twelve large baskets with scraps left over from the meal of five barley loaves. Seeing the sign that he had done, the people said, 'This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world. Jesus, as he realised they were about to come and take him by force and make him king, fled back to the hills alone.

This week’s Gospel reading can teach children some important lessons that they can use every day:
Sharing and Generosity: In the story, a little boy shared his food with Jesus, and Jesus used it to feed a huge crowd. This shows us that sharing what we have, no matter how small, can help others. Think about ways you can share with friends, family, or even people you don’t know. Maybe you can share your toys, snacks, or help someone who needs it.
Trusting in God: Jesus knew exactly what to do to feed the crowd. This reminds us to trust God, especially when we face problems. God always has a plan for us. When you’re worried or scared, remember that God is with you and will help you through it.
Being Thankful: Before Jesus shared the food, He gave thanks. It's important to be grateful for what we have and to thank God every day. Try to think of three things you’re thankful for each day and say a prayer of thanks to God.
Jesus and his disciples worked together to feed the crowd. This shows us the power of working together and helping others. Think about how you can help your family, friends, and community. Maybe you can help with chores at home, be kind to classmates, or participate in community service activities.
By learning these lessons, we can become better at sharing, trusting God, being thankful, and helping others.
Talk with your children about how they can practice these lessons this week!

Our STAR Values of Service, Tika, Aroha and Respect, reminds our school community of the way of Jesus.

Absence Notification Procedure
If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, we kindly ask that you follow one of the two options for notifying us:
- School App: Please use the school app to report your child's absence. You can find a dedicated section within the app where you can provide the necessary details about the absence.
- Call the Office: Alternatively, you can call the school office directly to inform us about your child's absence
It is crucial that you use one of these official channels to report absences. While we understand that some parents may prefer to privately message the teachers on Seesaw, there is a possibility that the message may not reach the teacher promptly or that they may be away, resulting in a delay in recording the absence.
By following the official absence notification procedure, you help us ensure the safety and well-being of your child. It also helps us keep accurate attendance records and enables us to respond quickly in case of any emergency.
Health & Safety
- Keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the spread of illness.
- Notify the school office if your child will be absent due to illness or other reasons.
Getting a good night's sleep is essential for children's health and well-being. Here are some tips:
- Consistent Bedtime Routine: Set a regular bedtime and include calming activities like reading or listening to music.
- Sleep-Friendly Environment: Keep the bedroom quiet, dark, and cool, and limit electronic devices before bed.
- Encourage Activity: Regular physical activity helps children fall asleep easier, but avoid vigorous exercise close to bedtime.
- Healthy Eating: Avoid heavy meals and caffeine near bedtime.
